Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Saint-Quentin and its surroundings

The town of Saint Quentin was founded by the Romans, and is named after Saint Quentin, believed to have been a martyr during the 3rd century. This ancient town has numerous wonderful attractions including la Basilique de Saint Quentin, just 4km from the hotel. This Roman Catholic Church was constructed over three centuries, from the 12th century. Its slow progress was due to the wars, epidemics and financial difficulties during that time, but the church boasts a great organ, slightly damaged from World War I, dating back to 1690. There are a few unusual museums worth a visit whilst in Saint Quentin: the Butterflies museum hosts a collection of more than 600,000 insects, displaying 20,000 of them! And the Antoine Lecuver Museum owns the largest collection of Maurice Quentin de La Tour's pastel. There is also an archaeological museum, called the Academic society, which is well worth a visit if you want to learn about local archaeology. For those who wish to go to the theatre/cabaret the Theatre Jean Villar and Le Splendid are 5 km from the hotel. The Touade de Riqueval, a historic canal, is 15km away, and is the only place in the world where you can practice towing barges. La fete de Bouffon takes place in the town every March
